Chapter 40 : Pragmatic

Vivek looked at the smiling face of his dear friend who was discussing something with his sister in law. She is finally happy in her life. He could see that. The re-appearance of her mangalsutra and sindoor were the sign that she was leading a happy life again with her husband. 

"Are you okay?"  His brother's concern voice from behind made him fake a smile.

" What would happen to me?"   


"Vivek, I am your brother. I know you better than anyone else. Forget her and move on. She loves you but not in a way you want her to. "

Vivek looked at his brother in shock.

"What? I know you love Khushi.. "

"Am I that transparent?"

Vijay smiled and patted his back affectionately and nodded in agreement. 

"I knew she will never love me back, still I had a small hope until Arnav re-entered in her life. Once he came back I understood she never stopped loving him."

"But Vivek.. Khushi never knew that you.."

"Yes.. I never told her because I knew she would have rejected me anyway. " 

"Let it go Vivek. There will be someone for you in this world who will return your love tenfold."

"Raizada is a lucky bastard.. hain na?" He asked with a small smile.

"That he is.. He don't deserve her still he got her for life." Vijay replied with a genuine smile.

"So I guess its time for me to move on.. " Vivek smiled sadly.

The brothers were so deep in conversation that they barely noticed Arnav who heard every word they spoke.

Vivek was right, he is a lucky bastard to get Khushi's love even if he didn't deserve it. He felt bad when he heard Vivek had feelings for Khushi. But he was grateful to that family for taking care of Khushi and Muskaan when the entire world was against them. He thanked Khushi's Devi Maiyya for keeping her and Muskaan safe for him. 

It has been nine months since they started living together again. So many things changed in the last few months. Nani left for Delhi before 6 months after her visit to Dubai. Arnav went along with her and stayed there for one week and returned back to UAE. He kept on travelling between Delhi, London and UAE to bring his business back to its glory. It was really hectic for him, but he is happy. He didn't want Khushi to compromise on anything. 

Lavanya and NK got married before 3 months and now settled in India. Lavanya is now working in his Delhi branch. Akash is still in Lucknow, but travelling between Delhi, Lucknow and London. Everyone from their family gathers together once in every 2 months, the gatherings are mostly in Dubai due to Khushi's job and her new responsibilities in her office refuses her to be out of station.

Khushi saw two lines but the second line was slightly lighter. She is pregnant. She came out of the washroom and went to Arnav who was playing with Muskaan. 

Sensing her presence he looked at her with concern. Tears rolled down through her cheek when she showed him the kit.

"Really ? We are going to be parents again?" His eyes filled with happy tears.

"Yes. we are.. " She hugged him tightly and he kissed her forehead. Muskaan who had no idea what was happening, got offended as their parents were not including her in their hug. She faked a cry to grab their attention. They broke their hug and sat near to her.

"You are a big sister now" Arnav took her in his arms and kissed her. 

He sensed something was bothering Khushi.

"Khushi.. I can see you are bothered about something? Can you please talk to me? I know the first pregnancy was not a pleasant experience for you. But I promise I will there for you all the time. We will do this together. "

"No Arnavji, Its not only that, you are already shuttling between India, UAE and UK. And my new role as the CFO , I won't be able to leave all this in UAE when my career is at a good place. Now with the baby coming its going to be... "

"Khushi.. You know how empty my life was since we separated? I love these frequent travelling, visiting Nani, coming home to you and our Muskaan, our family gathering with everyone. Its like I got my life back. And this is a good news and I was never going to ask you to leave your job and come with me. We will work this out. Don't worry.. I promise.. "

She smiled and hugged him again. Yes her first pregnancy was a tough journey but now with all his care and love she started to believe in happily ever after again. She can do this. Job, Muskaan, Arnav their families she will manage everything with him by her side.

"So don't you think we should give this good news to our families?" 

"Of  course.. " She smiled and picked up her phone to video call their families.

 Khushi retired for the day with a yawn . It’s been a really hectic day- shopping, selecting jewelries, finalizing wedding stage decoration etc. In between Arnav's messages came. like, "Where are you?"   He opened the main door and invited her inside. He observed her face as he led her to one of the guestroom. Her face was surprisingly calm and there was no discomfort.  "Take this towel. Once you change you can put your dress in the dryer. My mom's sarees will be there in the wardrobe. if you want you can change. " He walked out of the room closing the door behind him.  She stepped into the bathroom and removed her wet clothes. She noticed before Vijay switched on the heater before leaving the room.  She turned on the shower and let the warm water rinse her naked body. She cannot to go to Shantivan now. That house is full of painful memories, she wants to be away from the elders in her family hovering over her.
