Chapter 1

Khushi's Apartment , UAE

Standing on the balcony Khushi sipped her morning tea. 3 years… It has been 3 years since her life had changed completely. If she was married on that fateful day, she would have been celebrating her 3rd wedding anniversary today. But fate had other plans. The pain in her heart refused to leave her.

She closed her eyes as memories of that fateful day flashed infront of her. Why her? why did he punished her in the way he did? she wanted to go back and confront him. But she stopped herself. Her dreams were shattered and she was punished for no fault of hers. The man she loved and trusted with her life ditched he at the mandap. No.. He is not worthy of her thoughts. She is having other important responsibilities in her life.

She turned and looked back at her room where her daughter is sleeping soundly. Sight of her 2-year-old daughter soothed her heartache. She went beside her bed and gently kissed her forehead. Her heart filled with love and affection.

Muskaan is her life, she is the only one in this world from whom she received unconditional, selfless and pure love. She will do everything to give her a happy and comfortable life. Her daughter is the light of her life. She was grateful to her Devi Maiyya for sending Muskaan to her life.

The knock on the door broke her train of thoughts and she went towards half closed door. " what happened Akka?" she asked Savitha

“woh Payalji is sending me messages , asking why you are not taking her calls?“ Savitha told Khushi. Khushi knows why her sister is calling. Right now she don't want to speak to anyone.

“Tell her I am bit busy will call her back later. I will be leaving for office in half an hour. Please make Muskaan eat after one hour, I will be coming back by 5.30 only”. she instructed Savitha went to bathroom, she need to rush, only one hour left to reach office.

Delhi, India

Devyani Raizada stood before the idol of Devi Maiyya, a lone tear escaped her eye as she remembered the horrible things happened on this very same day before 3 years. How she wished things were different. She silently prayed for the well-being of Khushi bitiya like every other day and her chote- she paused for a while thinking about him. He never returned to India after that fateful day. He left that poor girl at altar and  punished her for someone else’s mistake.   He left – just like that. Away from everything.

She is very angry with her chote for leaving everyone like that , still her motherly heart ached when she thinks he is all alone dealing with his pain. Even if his doings were unforgivable, she talked to him normally whenever he called home two or three times in a week.

“Nani..” Anjali called walking towards her grandmother. “I am leaving for airport”. Nani turned and looked at her granddaughter. Anjali is a changed woman now, for her own good. Devyani knows what's going on in her personal life. But she never questioned her. Let her deal with her life herself.

“ Ok bitiya, take care of yourself, call me once you reach” Devyani smiled hugged her .

“ I will Nani “ she smiled back and walked towards the door. Hari Prakash wheeled her small travel bag and followed.

Devyani sighed looking her retreating form. They no longer discussed about that fateful day anymore. Anjali is also in touch with her chote not frequently though, but she was not sure how much chote was aware of his Di’s personal life. Life of everyone in Shantivan is not the same anymore.

London

Arnav Singh Raizada laid awake on his bed. it is 3.30 AM. He stared blankly at the ceiling. Another anniversary of his cancelled marriage. It was already 3 years still the pain in his heart never reduced. He deserve this pain for punishing her for no fault of hers. There was not even a single day passed in his life in the past 3 years without remembering her. He loved her more than anything else in this world. He need her more than his next breath. then why.. why did he leave her?

She was the one he wanted to treasure entire life. But the rage he felt after hearing the truth blinded him, he did not care about anything else at that moment, not even the love he had for her. Like every single time in the past she was punished by him for no fault of hers. He closed his eyes and her smiling face came to his mind, “Khushi...“he whispered hoping his voice reaches her.

He left India after that fateful day. Before marriage he had kept her papers ready so that they both can travel London for honeymoon and kept it as a surprise for her. But things took a bad turn and he left immediately for London all alone. Without even giving her an explanation. He did not want to face anyone. The painful memory of his mother’s death overpowered everything. And later he regretted his actions.. very badly. How he wished he should have gone back. But the damage was done, this time it was beyond repair.
